ACTIVITY OF COSTA IBÉRICA - MADEIRAS, S.A.

Costa Ibérica is located in Vila Garcia – Mangualde, with a total area of 20.000 m2 and a cover area of 6.500 m2, which is destinated to production, maintenance, warehouse and administration. These facilities were built in 1982, and were extended in 1987, 1990, 1995 and 2003.

The company dedicates to the purchase of raw materials (logs) in the offing or at the pinewood, since it doesn’t have it’s own tree felling team. The raw material that enters is the plant goes trough an initial process of transformation in the sawing unit, from this process we get 6 products: sawed wood for the manufacture of pallets, or to be sold to other companies, lumber timber, boards for panel, chips, bark and sawdust. The sawed wood for the manufacture of pallets is transported to the respective production unit, for the manufacture of the principal product of our company, wooden pallets. The boards that are saw for the panel, are also transported to the correspondent unit production for the manufacture of laminated panel and finger-joint panel. Which is then packed up and delivered to the clients.

The chips, sawdust, bark and packed sawed wood are products that do not suffer any transformation within our facilities. When they leave the sawmill they are immediately stored in the respective warehouse (for the chips. Bark and sawdust it is made automatically).

The bark suffers still a diameter calibration process and only then it is stored.

The activity of Costa Ibérica is totally certified by quality guaranty system, already adapt to the standard NP EN ISO 9001/2000 that permits a response the even more strict demands of the market as it also optimises the procedures already existent.

The market of “Costa Ibérica, SA” is composed predominantly, as fare as the sales of pallets are concerned, by average and big companies of the glasse-making sector, viticulture, ceramic and pool pallets.

Concerning the sales of laminated panel and the remaining products the market where “Costa Ibérica” acts is composed essentially by average manufacturers of furniture, carpentries and construction (building construction). In 2002 Costa Ibérica as made a business volume of 4.161.000 euros which shows a growing of nearly 14% the last biennium.

After achieving a stable position in the internal market, the company starts to consider the external market as a source of opportunities. Spain, Belgium, Italy become part of it’s priorities, in 2002 the exportations contributed in 32% for the sales volume.

After the national market have been secured as well as part of the Spanish one, “Costa Ibérica “ seeks to enlarge the commercial relations in the countries where we operate in the present time, but we have also aim to conquer other markets such as the United Stats and “Cabo Verde”

Besides of the peculiar characteristics of those markets, Costa Ibérica has, as a strategy, a very diversified range of products, as well as a very high quality of the products.

Costa Ibérica have been keeping a very high level of progress with a business volume of business that showed a growing in 2002 that overcome the 4 million euros and production capacity that exceed the 60.000 pallets per month.
